Scag Cheetah: How to Start Your Mower
When you transition to using a new piece of power equipment, you should try to become familiar with its parts, features, and operating procedures. This includes starting, steering, and maintaining your equipment.
It is recommended that you perform a first day of use inspection routine before using your equipment for the first time. Be sure to read your owner’s manual for specifics about your model and information regarding safety, warranties, and suggested maintenance and inspection schedules.
- Step 1: First, find the fuel shutoff valve that is located behind the operator seat. Make sure that it’s completely open.
- Step 2: Secure the Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS) in its upright and locked position.
- Step 3: Sit down in the seat, fasten your seatbelt, and bring both control levers to the neutral position.
- Step 4: Engage the parking brake.
- Step 5: Set the PTO switch to “disengaged”.
- Step 6: Depending on the temperature of the engine, choke accordingly.
- Step 7: Set the throttle control to half engine speed.
- Step 8: Turn the ignition key to start and release it as soon as it starts. Don’t hold the key in the start position for more than 15 seconds. Wait one minute between cranking attempts so that the starter motor does not overheat. Cranking for too long can damage the starter motor and shorten battery life.
- Step 9: Let the engine warm up for a bit before you begin mowing.
Check your manual for instructions regarding operation of a zero turn mower.
