Husqvarna Z Series Mowers: How to Remove and Install a Deck Belt
To ensure the smooth and effective operation of your Husqvarna Z Series mower, you should regularly inspect, clean, and replace (if needed) your deck belt. If you notice cracks or any other serious damage on your deck belt, it should be replaced.
As with any power equipment, it is important to read your owner’s manual to learn about any important safety procedures, maintenance schedules, and general tips and recommendations. Be careful while working around blades.
Deck Belt Removal
- Step 1: Ensure that you’re on a level surface and that the parking brake is applied. Position the deck into its lowest setting.
- Step 2: Remove the bolts from the belt shields and then remove the belt shields. Clean any dirt/grass/debris that has settled around the housing or on the deck surface.
- Step 3: Take a picture of the way the belt is routed before removing it so that you have something to guide you in routing the new belt.
- Step 4: Move the idler arm to remove belt tension.
- Step 5: Move the belt up over the top of the cutter housing pulleys and remove the belt. Be careful while removing the belt as rolling it over the pulleys may damage the belt.
Deck Belt Installation
- Step 1: On the engine shaft, wrap the deck belt around the clutch pulley. Pull the belt forward and up, bringing it onto the deck.
- Step 2: Position the belt around the spring loaded idler pulley. Then, wrap it around the stationary idler pulley and around the mandrel housings.
- Step 3: Push in on the idler arm and route the belt over the stationary idler pulley. Once this is done, release the idler arm to give the belt tension.
- Step 4: Check to make sure that the belt routing matches the decal and your picture. Make sure there aren’t any twists and that the belt is properly seated.
- Step 5: Replace the shields on the housings and secure them with fasteners.
Remember to be careful while handling the belt, as it can be easily damaged. Check in your owner’s manual or with the manufacturer to make sure you are replacing your belt with the correct one.
