How to Tension the Chain on a RedMax Chainsaw

Watch our video on how to tension the chain on a RedMax chainsaw.

If the chain is too loose on the bar, it can slip or derail. If the chain is too tight, it will cause premature bar wear. This video shows you how to properly tension the chain on a RedMax chainsaw.

Step 1:

Remove the top cover and disconnect the spark plug

Step 2:

Deactivate the chain brake by pulling it all the way back

Step 3:

Locate the tensioner screw on the side of the saw, while holding the bar up, turn the tensioner screw clockwise to tighten chain

Note:

You can tell that the chain is properly tensioned when chain links can not be physically lifted from the bar, however, you should still be able to easily turn the chain by hand

Jack’s Safety Tips: Before servicing or repairing any power equipment, disconnect the spark plug and battery cables. Remember to wear appropriate safety glasses and gloves to protect against harmful chemicals and debris. View our Disclaimer.
