How to Start and Stop Your Honda Two Stage Snow Blower

Properly starting up and stopping your snow blower will prevent unnecessary damage and frustration. Before attempting to operate your equipment, be aware of all pre-operation safety precautions. The information in these instructions is based on the Honda HSS928A and HSS1332A snow blowers. Check your owner’s manual for information regarding your specific model.

Starting the Engine

  • Step 1: Move the shifting lever into the neutral position which is denoted by an “N”.
  • Step 2: Turn the fuel valve to “ON”.
  • Step 3: If the engine is cold, set the choke knob to “CLOSED”.
  • Step 4: Set the throttle to “FAST”.
  • Step 5:

    For electric start models:

    Turn the engine switch to the start position. Release it when the engine starts and allow it to automatically return to the “ON” position.

    For manual start models:

    Turn the engine switch until it’s in the “ON” position.

    Slowly pull on the starter grip until it becomes harder to pull. When this happens, pull the grip swiftly towards you. Allow the grip to return to the engine.

  • Step 6: Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes.
  • Step 7: If the choke has been closed, slowly set it to open as the engine gets warmer.
  • Step 8: Set the throttle to slow.
  • Step 9: Squeeze the drive clutch lever while the shift lever is in the neutral position and the engine is warming up to warm up the transmission. Hold it for about 30 seconds.

Stopping the Engine

  • Step 1: Release the auger and drive levers.
  • Step 2: Set the shift lever to the neutral position.
  • Step 3: Move the throttle lever to “SLOW”.
  • Step 4: Turn the engine switch to “OFF”.
  • Step 5: Turn the fuel valve until it’s off.
