Replenishing your trimming line is often an annoying yet necessary task to deal with when trimming on a regular basis. Make sure you're properly reequipping your trimmer with new trimmer line to avoid clogs, tangles, and other future problems.
Before servicing any power equipment, follow the safety instructions laid out in your owner's manual. Make sure the equipment is completely stopped, cooled down, and that no parts are moving before attempting to service your equipment.
- Step 1: Remove old trimming line and any other obstructions from the trimmer head.
- Step 2: Cut a section of trimming line that is approximately 20 feet (6 meters) in length.
- Step 3: Turn the bump knob clockwise until the arrows are aligned.
- Step 4: Place the new trimming line into the entry eyelet.
- Step 5: Guide the line through the cutting head until a few inches are sticking out of the opposite eyelet.
- Step 6: Pull the trimming line coming out of the opposite eyelet until there is about 10 feet of trimming line on each side of the trimmer head.
- Step 7: Turn the bump knob clockwise and wind the line until there are only about 5 inches sticking out of each side. Don't push down on the bump knob while you're winding the line.
