How to Replace the Blades on a Simplicity Broadmoor Lawn Tractor

Blades wear down over time and will need to be replaced.

Luckily, its a quick and easy process to install new blades on your mower!

What you will need:

  • Simplicity Broadmoor Lawn Tractor
  • New Blades
  • Wrench or Socket Wrench
  • Torque Wrench
  • Block of wood
  • Gloves

Step 1:

Remove mower deck (See how here!)

Step 2:

Use a block of wood to prevent the blade from rotating while you loosen the cap screw.

Step 3:

Remove the cap screw, spring washer, and blade.

Step 4:

Use a file to sharpen the blade to a fine edge.

Step 5:

Check the blade for damage, if it is damaged, you need to replace the blade.

Step 6:

Balance the blade, to do this:

  • Place the center hole of the blade on a nail lubricated with a drop of oil, if the blade is balanced it will remain level.

Step 7:

Re-install the blade with the airlifts pointing up towards the mower deck.

Step 8:

Reinstall the spring washer and cap screw; use the wooden block to prevent rotation while tightening the cap screw.

Step 9:

Torque the cap screw to 50-60 ft-lbs (68-81 N∙m).

Step 10:

Install the mower deck.

Be sure you regularly check your blades for any damage, in your owner’s manual you can find a suggested maintenance schedule to help you know how often you should service your blades!

Helpful Hints:

  • Wear gloves whenever you work with blades.
  • You can wrap the blade in a heavy cloth so you do not have to handle it directly.
