How to Replace the Belt on a Toro Walk Behind Lawn Mower
It is very important to frequently check your belt to be sure that it is not frayed or torn, if it is, you should promptly replace it.
If you don’t know how to change the belt on you lawn mower, here is how!
Step 1:
Be sure to let the engine cool before performing any maintenance
Step 2:
Remove the spark plug wire
Step 3:
Set the mower on it’s side, being sure to keep the air filter and carburetor up
Step 4:
Block the blades so that they don’t rotate and remove the blade bolt
Step 5:
Remove the blade adapter and the blade
Step 6:
Remove the bolt from the belt guide
Step 7:
Loosen the lower bolt of the belt guide and move the guide slightly to the side so it is out of the way
Step 8:
Remove the belt from the pulley and remove the blade driver
Step 9:
To remove the belt shield and the rear baffle, remove the bolts from the mower deck
Step 10:
The wheels may need to be moved to get to some of the bolts
Step 11:
Remove the spring and the cable from the transmission bracket
Step 12:
Move the transmission and remove the screws to remove the bracket
Step 13:
Take the old belt off of the pulley
Step 14:
Thread the new belt onto the pulley and put the transmission bracket back into place and secure the screws
Step 15:
Rotate the transmission back into it’s proper position and reattach the spring end of the traction cable
Step 16:
Put together the rear baffle and the shield and re-attach them to the deck of the mower using bolts
Step 17:
put the wheels back to the original position
Step 18:
Align the drive onto the shaft
Step 19:
thread the new belt, and put the belt guide back into position
Step 20:
Put the bolt back into the upper part of the belt guide and re-tighten the lower bolt
Step 21:
Re-install the blade and adapter
Step 21:
Return the mower into its upright position
It’s a lot of steps to change the belt on your mower, but just take your time and be sure to read each step thoroughly and you will have your belt changed in no time!
