How to Operate an Ariens String Trimmer
To Start:
- Check the engine oil level
- Check fuel level
- If the engine is cold, press the primer bulb 2-3 times
- Set the throttle control to “fast”Preview
- Grasp the starter handle and pull the rope out slowly until it pulls harder
- This is the compression stroke, let the rope rewind slowly, then pull the rope with rapid continuous full arm stroke to start the engine, allow the rope to rewind slowly.
- Do not let the starter handle snap against the handle bar
- Repeat until the engine starts
To Stop the Engine:
- Release the control bail so that the trimmer head stops rotation
- Wait until rotating parts stop completely before leaving operators position
- Push throttle control lever to stop
- If leaving un-attended disconnect spark plug wire to prevent accidental start up.
To Operate the Trimmer:
- Start the engine
- Set the throttle control to fast
- Hold the control bail against the handlebar to engage the trimmer head
- When the trimmer head is rotating at full speed, move unit forward to trim
To Travel to another work area:
- If you need to cross a driveway or a bare area, release the control bail to stop the trimmer head rotation and push down slightly on the handlebar to lift the trimmer head off the ground, this will help stop the trimmer head from wearing too quickly.
Trimmer Tips!:
- If you are cutting long grass or weeds, be sure to walk slower
- Do not push the trimmer into heavy growth too fast
- Do not use trimmer on steep slopes, especially when the ground is wet!
- Do not let dirt and grass build up in the trimmer, be sure to keep it clean!
- Install new trimmer line when it is less 4”
