How to Operate a Redmax String Trimmer
Starting Engine:
- Check oil in crank case
- Fill the tank up with fresh unleaded fuel
- Rest on a flat, firm place. Keep the cutting head up off the ground and clear of any objects because it will start rotating when you start the engine
- Push the primer pump several times until overflown fuel flows out in the clear tube
- Move the choke lever downward to the start position
- Set the ignition switch the “start” position while pulling the throttle lever, push the set button, and release the throttle, then the throttle lever is in the “start” position
- While holding the unit firmly, pull out the starter knob briskly
- When the engine has started or sounds like it wants to run (2.5 pulls on average) move the choke lever gradually upward to the “run” position
- In the case the engine has not started after opening the choke, pull the starter knob briskly to start the engine
- Allow the engine to warm up for several minutes before starting operation
Stopping Engine:
- Release throttle lever and run the engine for a half of a minute
- Shift the ignition switch to stop position
Adjusting the idling speed:
- When the engine tends to stop frequently at idling mode, turn the adjusting screw clockwise
- If the cutting head keeps rotating after releasing the trigger turn the adjusting screw counter-clockwise
Adjusting the line length:
- The trimmer is equipped with a semi-automatic type nylon line head
- With the engine running , tap the trimmer head on the ground (bare area or very firm soil) it will release 1” of trimmer line each time you bump it on the ground
Trimming Grass and Weeds:
- Remember, the tip of the line does the cutting!
- Hold the unit so the head is off the ground and is tilted about 20° toward the sweep direction
- You can avoid thrown debris by sweeping from left to right
- You should use a slow concise action to cut heavy growth. The rate of the cutting motion will depend on the material being cut
- Heavy growth will require you to move slower than light growth will
- Don’t swing the unit too quickly or with too much force or you may lose your balance or control of the unit
- Try to control cutting motion with the hip rather than with the arms and hands
