How to Operate a Husqvarna String Trimmer
To Start the Engine:
- Cold Engine:
- Press the primer bulb 10 times until fuel begins to fill the bulb, the primer bulb does not need to be completely filled
- Move the blue engine choke lever to the closed position
- To start warm engine/after following steps for a cold engine
- Hold the body of the machine on the ground using your left hand (NOT FOOT)
- Grip the starter rope firmly with your right hand, be sure not to squeeze the throttle trigger
- Pull the cord slowly until you feel a small amount of resistance, when you feel the resistance then quickly and powerfully pull the cord
- Remember to never wrap the cord around your hand!
- Pull the cord a few times until you hear the engine attempts to start
- Move the choke lever to the ½ position
- Pull the rope until the engine starts and then move the choke lever to the closed position
- Never pull the starter cord all the way out and do not release it when the cord is extended
To Stop the Engine:
- Push and hold the stop switch in the stop position until engine cuts off
Basic Working Techniques:
- Always slow the engine to idle speed after each working operation. Long periods at full throttle without any load on the engine can lead to severe engine damage
Trimming:
- Hold the trimmer head a little bit above the ground at an angle. The tip of the trimmer line is the part of the trimmer that does the cutting. Be sure to let the trimmer line work at its own pace. Do not press the trimmer line into the area you are cutting, only the tip does the work and it won’t be as effective if you push the line into the grass or weeds.
Clearing:
- Removes all unwanted vegetation.
- Keep the trimmer head a little bit off of the ground and tilt it.
- Let the end of the trimmer line hit the ground around trees, posts, statues, etc.
- Warning: this will cause excessive wear on the trimmer line.
Cutting:
- Good for cutting grass in a smaller area where a mower won’t fit
- Keep the trimmer line parallel to the ground when cutting
- Do not press the trimmer head against the ground, this could ruin your lawn and potentially your trimmer
Sweeping:
- Hold the trimmer parallel to the ground and sweep it in a back and forth motion
