How to Check and Replace the Spark Plug on Your Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle String Trimmer
If your spark plug is fouled in any way, it can cause your equipment to be unable to start. Replacing the spark plug is a relatively inexpensive, quick, and easy task that can end your frustrations.
Before servicing any power equipment, follow the safety instructions laid out in your owner’s manual. Make sure the equipment is completely stopped, cooled down, and that no parts are moving before attempting to service your equipment.
- Step 1: Stop the engine. Allow several minutes for the engine to cool down.
- Step 2: Grap the spark plug boot and firmly pull it off of the spark plug.
- Step 3: Clean the area that’s around the spark plug.
- Step 4: Remove the spark plug using a 5/8 inch socket turning counterclockwise.
- Step 5: Look to see if the spark plug is cracked, fouled, or dirty. If any of these symptoms are present, replace it with part number 79400043.
- Step 6: Set the air gap at 0.025 inches using a feeler gauge.
- Step 7: Install the new spark plug into the cylinder head.
- Step 8: Tighten the spark plug using a 5/8 inch socket until it’s snugly fit.
- Step 9: Reattach the boot.
