Maintain the quality and cleanliness of your chainsaw's air filter to extend your equipment's life and effectiveness.
The following instructions are based on the DCS6400, DCS6401, DCS6420, DCS6421, DCS7300, DCS7301, DCS7900, and DCS7901 model Makita chainsaws. Always read and be familiar with your equipment's operator's manual to understand the specific parts and procedures that pertain to your equipment.
When servicing your equipment, be sure to wear proper eye and hand protection.
- Step 1: Use your combination tool to detach the clips on the filter hood.
- Step 2: Remove the filter hood.
- Step 3: Pull the choke out. This will stop dirt from entering the carburetor.
- Step 4: Detach the air filter retainer by pressing it downward.
- Step 5: Lift the air filter out.
- Step 6: Use a clean piece of cloth to cover the air intake opening and prevent dirt from entering the carburetor.
- Step 7: If you're operating your equipment in very dry or dusty conditions, use a fleece filter. If you're operating your equipment in damp conditions, use a nylon filter.
- Step 8: Carefully take apart the top and bottom of the air filter.
- Step 9: To clean the fleece filter, tap or blow the dust out of the inside.
- Step 10: Do not brush, as brushing a fleece filter will push the dirt farther into the fabric. Wash the filter in warm water with dish washing detergent if it is extremely dirty.
- Step 11: If the fleece filter is damage and cleaning it does not lead to improvement, replace the filter.
- Step 12: Clean dirt out of the nylon filter with a soft brush and compressed air.
- Step 13: Wash the nylon filter with warm water and dish washing detergent if it is extremely dirty. Replace if damaged.
- Step 14: Allow your air filter to dry completely before placing it back into your equipment.
- Step 15: Attach the top and bottom of the air filter. Clean the area around the choke flap for dirt before place reassembling the air filter.
- Step 16: Put the air filter back in and press down on the retainer until it clicks.
- Step 17: Push the choke and throttle in.
- Step 18: Place the filter hood on and hook the clips.
