How to Check and Change the Oil of Your Craftsman Dual-Stage Snow Blower
Prevent unnecessary engine damage by maintaining the proper quality and amount of oil in your engine. Doing this will ensure that your engine is properly lubricated and protected as a result. Diligently maintaining your equipment will save you repair costs in the long run.
Before servicing any power equipment, follow the safety instructions laid out in your owner’s manual. Make sure the equipment is completely stopped, cooled down, and that no parts are moving before attempting to service your equipment.
Checking the Oil
- Step 1: Remove the oil filler cap and the dipstick. Wipe the dipstick until it is clean.
- Step 2: Insert the dipstick into the neck, but don’t secure the cap.
- Step 3: Remove the dipstick and check the oil level. If needed, add more oil until the level reaches between high and low.
- Step 4: Replace the cap and dipstick. Completely tighten the cap to secure it.
Changing the Oil
- Step 1: Run the engine until the fuel tank is empty.
- Step 2: Before changing the oil, make sure the fuel filling cap is tightened and secure.
- Step 3: Place a container that is capable of collecting and holding oil underneath the oil draining plug.
- Step 4: Remove the oil draining plug.
- Step 5: Tilt your snow blower toward the container and drain the oil into it.
- Step 6: Properly dispose of the oil.
- Step 7: Plug the oil draining port.
- Step 8: Refill with oil of appropriate viscosity. For general use, OW-30 is recommended. For temperatures above 0°, 5W-30 is recommended.
- Step 9: Secure the oil filler cap and dipstick.
