Changing the oil, piece of cake, right?
Maybe for some people it is! But if you are one of those people who are clueless when it comes to lawn mower maintenance, or maybe you just forgot how to change the oil, here is a quick step-by-step guide to make it look like you're a pro at changing oil!
Here is what you will need:
- Husqvarna Riding Mower
- Clean-up materials
- Container to drain oil into
- Oil drain tube
- New oil filter
- Oil
Step 1:
Park your mower on a flat area.
Step 2:
Find oil drain valve (located at the base of the tractors engine).
Step 3:
Remove valve cap.
Step 4:
Attach oil drain tube.
Step 5:
Have container ready to catch oil.
Step 6:
Unlock drain valve by pushing it in and turning.
Step 7:
Pull drain valve out to start the oil flow.
Step 8:
When all of the oil has completely drained, close and recap the drain valve to its locked position.
Step 9:
Remove the old oil filter by turning it counter clockwise (have your clean up materials handy, it may drip!)
Step 10:
Make sure the gasket comes off with the old oil filter.
Step 11:
Pour the old oil out of filter and discard filter.
Step 12:
Coat the gasket of the new oil filter with oil before installing.
Step 13:
Screw filter onto the engine.
Step 14:
Once the gasket makes contact with the engine turn the filter three quarters to one full turn more to be sure it is properly secured.
Step 15:
Refill engine with new oil through the oil fill tube. Remember, pour slowly and do NOT overfill the engine.
Step 16:
Check oil level by inserting dipstick in to the tube, if the oil reaches the “full” replace the cap, if it doesn’t add a little bit more oil and test again, repeat until the “full” line is reached.
Helpful Hints:
- It is recommended that you change your oil after every 50 hours of use
- If you use your mower roughly 100 hours a year, you can do it just once and be okay.
- You should change the oil filter every other oil change with frequent use, or every season if it is not used quite as much.
