How to Change the Blade on an Ariens Razor Walk Behind Mower

Replacing your blades is a great way to improve the quality of your grass cut!

Blades wear down over time and need regular maintenance. Changing the blades may seem like a difficult job, but it’s not! Here’s how to do it!




What you will need:

  • Ariens Razor Walk Behind Mower
  • Torque Wrench
  • New Blade
  • Block of wood
  • Socket or wrench
  • Gloves

Removing the Blade:

Step 1:

Shut off Engine.

Step 2:

Wait for all parts to stop moving.

Step 3:

Disconnect spark plug wire.

Step 4:

Block blade to prevent rotation, such as with a piece of wood.

Step 5:

Remove bolt, lock washer, flat washer and blade from shaft.

 

Installing the Blade:

Step 1:

Replace blade, flat washer, lock washer and bolt on shaft.

Step 2:

Torque bolt to 37.5-50 lb-ft(51-68 N∙m) (bolt should fully compress lock washer).

Step 3:

Connect spark plug wire.

Helpful Hints:

  • Consult your owners manual for model specific information and a recommended maintenance schedule
  • Always wear gloves to protect your hands, blades can still be sharp after being used for a while
  • For extra protection you can wrap a heavy cloth around the blade so you do not have to directly handle the blade during installation/removal
