Gravely ZT: How to Start and Stop the Engine
Knowing how to properly start, operate, and stop your equipment will help you avoid unnecessary damage and wear. Be familiar with these processes so that you can focus more on getting the job done and less on worrying about how to operate the equipment.
If you’re starting the engine for the first time or after it has run out of fuel, it will take longer than normal to get fuel to the engine. Make sure you don’t run the starter for more than 10 seconds per minute.
Disengage the PTO, put the steering levers in the neutral position, and engage the parking brake before attempting to start the engine.
Starting the Engine
- Step 1: Apply choke if the engine is cold.
- Step 2: Put the ignition key in and turn it to “START”. When the engine starts, release the key.
- Step 3: Gradually set the choke to the off position if used. Make sure the choke is fully disengaged or the engine will not run properly.
- Step 4: Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes, depending on the temperature. Once the engine is running smoothly and warmed up, you may proceed to operate it.
Operating the Mower
- Step 1: Once the engine is running, set the throttle to fast when you begin to mow.
- Step 2: Engage PTO and allow 2 to 3 seconds for the mower blades to get started.
- Step 3: Release the parking brake.
- Step 4: Use the steering levers to go forward, backward, and turn.
- Step 5: Disengage the PTO to stop the blades.
Stopping the Engine
- Step 1: Stop the mower and disengage the PTO.
- Step 2: Set the throttle lever to the “SLOW” position.
- Step 3: Turn the key to the “OFF” position and remove it.
- Step 4: Set the parking brake.
