How to Adjust the Skid Shoes and Auger Control on Your Cub Cadet Two Stage Snow Thrower
Skid shoes often need to be adjusted to provide proper snow clearing. For close removal of snow on a surface that’s smooth, the skid shoes should be raised. They should be lowered for uneven surfaces. Additionally, the auger control may need to be adjusted to ensure that your equipment is operating as properly and efficiently as possible.
Adjust the Skid Shoes
- Step 1: Loosen the two hex nuts and carriage bolts on each skid shoe.
- Step 2: Adjust the skid shoes and move them into their desired positions.
- Step 3: Ensure that the bottom of the skid shoe is aligned with the ground. This will help to prevent your skid shoes from becoming unevenly worn.
- Step 4: Tighten the nuts and bolts to secure the skid shoes once they are in their desired positions.
Adjust the Auger Control
- Step 1: Check to make sure the cable has little slack but is not tight when the auger control has been released and is in the disengaged position.
- Step 2: Start the engine.
- Step 3: Stand in the operator’s position behind the snow thrower.
- Step 4: Engage the auger.
- Step 5: Leave the auger engaged for around 10 seconds.
- Step 6: Release the auger control.
- Step 7: Repeat steps 5 and 6 several more times.
- Step 8: Set the throttle to the fast and disengage the auger control.
- Step 9: Look to see if the auger has completely stopped moving. If it hasn’t, return to the operator’s position and turn off the engine.
- Step 10: Allow some time for all moving parts on the equipment to stop moving before attempting to adjust the auger control.
- Step 11: On the auger cable bracket, loosen the top hex screw.
- Step 12: Move the bracket upward to provide more slack for the cable or downward to provide the cable more tension.
- Step 13: Once the bracket is in its desired position, tighten the top hex screw on the bracket.
- Step 14: Repeat steps 2 through 10 to ensure that the auger control requires no further adjusting.
