Replacement Switches
Jack's has all your safety switches and key switches for your needs.

The letters on the back of an ignition switch stands for the following: M for magneto, B for battery, S for starter soleniod, G for ground, L for lights, I for ignition, A for accessory and R for regulator/rectifier. The designated terminal connects in some manner to thta component. For example, the B terminal connects in some manner to the positive battery cable.

The reason you need a different type of switch for battery and magneto ignitions is because of different operating principles. A battery ignition uses an external power source to create the spark at the spark plug. It is usually a 12-volt battery and an external coil like our 460-048. The switch controls the volts to the coil. When it is an "off" position, it sends 0 volts to the coil and will not allow it to create a spark.

Magneto ignition needs no external power source. The engine flywheel has a set of magnets built into it. As these magnets pass by the laminations of the coil, voltage is built up by the coil. It transfers this voltage to the spark plug and creates the spark. The switch acts as a ground mechanism for the magneto system via the M terminal. When the switch is in a run position, then the system is grounded and the voltage for the spark flows through to the plug. When the switch is in an off position, then the system is grounded and will not allow the spark voltage to get to the plug, and no spark is created. Many of our replacement key switches come from the OEM vendor, Indak, the leading supplier in our industry. This is further evidence of Stens' commitment to quality. Diagrams of terminal placement accompany the key switches in this section for easy identification.
