Changing the oil in your lawn tractor is quick and easy, it is also very important!
Did you know that having too little oil in the engine can lead to engine difficulties?
Here is how to properly change your oil and oil filter!
Step 1:
Park mower on level surface
Step 2:
Remove the dipstick to see check the engine oil level, if it is a little low, add small amounts of oil between oil changes.
Step 3:
Use oil drain tube or tray that came with the engine
Step 4:
Have a container available to catch the used oil
Step 5:
Remove the oil fill cap before filling the engine with oil, to prevent a vacuum from forming
Step 6:
Remove cap at the end of the drain valve,
Step 7:
install tube on to the fitting
Step 8:
push the drain valve inward and turn counter clockwise to begin draining
Step 9:
If you mower has a spin off oil filter now is the time to change it
Step 10:
Take off the filter
Step 11:
Place on the new filter
Step 12:
Close and lock the oil drain valve by pushing it inwards and turning it clockwise until the pin locks into position
Step 13:
Remove the drain tube and replace the cap onto the valve fitting
Step 14:
Refill engine with oil through the dipstick tube slowly to avoid overfilling
Step 15:
Check the oil level
That's it! Be sure to check you owner's manual for a recommended maintenance schedule!
According To Ariens:
- When the temperature is above 30°F SAE-30 is recommended
- When the temperature is below 30°F 5W-30 should be used
- However, be sure to check your owner’s manual to see what is recommended for your model of tractor
Helpful Hints:
- Oil drains better and faster when it is warm, run the mower for 5-10 minutes before draining so the oil has a chance to warm.
